Monash University’s Faculty of Art Design & Architecture in Melbourne, Australia seeks an outstanding candidate to manage and lead the Department of Design.

We support a community of outstanding creative practitioners – artists, designers, architects and cultural producers – who are committed to cultural enrichment and the pursuit of transformational research through practice.
MADA’s Department of Design is a community of design practitioners who support studio education and practice-based research as the prime means of advancing the discipline. The department has existing and emerging strengths across a range of design practices, including industrial, communication, interaction, sound & motion and transport design. Staff and students collaborate to produce vibrant, innovative and creative outcomes that address the social, economic and human issues facing our society.
The Professor (or Associate Professor) and Head of Design will have an exceptional track record of innovation in education and research, and a commitment to design through practice-based research. They will be an inspirational leader who understands contemporary culture and takes an integrative and inclusive approach to creative practice.
The successful candidate will have an advanced qualification in design; an international reputation for outstanding research; the capacity to achieve a profile for the department's achievements through strong existing networks of creative practitioners and researchers; extensive experience in supervising Masters and PhD candidates; and proven ability to provide academic leadership across education research and staff development.
