The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston seeks an experienced professional for the full-time position of Curator of African and Oceanic Art. Reporting to the Chair, Department of Asia, Oceania and Africa, the successful candidate will be expected to: locate, research, recommend and present objects for acquisition within the departmental Collections Strategy; refine collection through proposal of regular and responsible de-accessioning; stay abreast of commercial market, private collecting, local collectors and other important industry trends; obtain, develop, plan and organize exhibition installations; participate in departmental documentation and research; conduct lectures and attend conferences and seminars; identify objects and confer/consult with research laboratory staff and other experts to establish authenticity of art objects; visit other museums in order to develop and maintain professional affiliations; collaborate with Development department staff to cultivate relationships with important collectors and donors.
Candidates should have a Master's degree in African or Oceanic Art; Ph.D. preferred. 3 to 5 years of experience working in a major museum in a curatorial capacity desirable/preferred.
