Wilfrid Laurier University –The Department of History invites applications for the position of Dunkley Chair in War and the Canadian Experience commencing July 1, 2014, subject to budgetary approval. The applicant will be appointed with tenure at the rank of Associate Professor. In addition to membership in the Department of History, the holder of the Dunkley Chair in War and the Canadian Experience will serve as Director of the Laurier Centre for Military, Strategic and Disarmament Studies (LCMSDS), one of the country’s leading research institutes.
Candidates with a wide variety of research interests related to war and the Canadian experience are invited to apply. Candidates are expected to have a research and publication record commensurate with the rank of their appointment, and an active and innovative research agenda. The successful candidate will have a PhD at the time of appointment and will be expected to attract excellent graduate students and external research funding as well as contribute to the research culture of the Department of History. The Dunkley Chair-holder will be provided annually with a two-course release from the normal four-course teaching load in order to direct the LCMSDS. The successful candidate will be expected to teach at both graduate and undergraduate levels in the Department of History.
As Director of the LCMSDS, the successful candidate is expected to enhance the research profile of the institute by facilitating access to its archival collections, developing the Centre’s publication list and journal, and encouraging innovative research. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to engage in community-oriented activities, which may include public lectures, seminars, conferences, or tours that disseminate knowledge concerning the strategic and operational history of the Canadian armed forces and other aspects of the Canadian war experience,

The teaching dossier should include summaries of course evaluations; selected course outlines and a two-page reflection on teaching and the applicant's teaching experience.
