The School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies (SHPRS) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin Fall 2014 with tenure home among the history faculty within SHPRS. We seek a scholar whose orientation to the subject is from a Mexican, U.S. Southwest, or comparative U.S.-Mexican perspective. We especially welcome candidates who demonstrate a commitment to public history; have dealt with the major themes of the field that include but are not exclusive to: immigration, urbanization, trade relations, and cultural formation; and who incorporate technological innovation in all aspects of their work, from research to teaching.
The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate level courses.
Required qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in History, American Studies, or a closely affiliated discipline or interdisciplinary study by the time of appointment.
Desired qualifications: Demonstrated ability to teach American and Latin American history at a level of excellence in a variety of settings including in classrooms, online, and/or a classroom/online hybrid environment; research covering the 20th Century; evidence of excellence in research; and experience in public history practice.
