Two Faculty Positions – Professor (South Asian Studies Programme, Department of Southeast Asian Studies, or Department of Japanese Studies, with joint appointments in a disciplinary department)
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore invites applications for two professorial positions to begin in July 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. The deadline for application is 13 September 2013.
Successful candidates will have a primary appointment in one of the following Asian Studies departments/programmes – South Asian Studies, Southeast Asian Studies, or Japanese Studies -- according to area of expertise, with a secondary appointment in an appropriate disciplinary department in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Appointments can be tenurable, or on a fixed-term contract.
The South Asian Studies Programme, Department of Southeast Asian Studies, and Department of Japanese Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore, are comprehensive departments/programmes each offering Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees. Research and teaching in these departments is inter-disciplinary and may include topics drawn from a range of disciplines, including sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, history, geography, developmental economics, and others. As part of the large and vibrant Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, these departments/programmes also work closely with Asianists housed in the disciplinary departments jointly to advance the Faculty’s Asian research agenda, while maintaining a strong commitment to undergraduate education and graduate supervision.
The successful candidates should be senior scholars with a strong international reputation in any aspect of South Asian, Southeast Asian or Japanese Studies. They should have a strong publication record (with evidence of a continuing trajectory), extensive experience of teaching and graduate student supervision, an internationally recognised research profile and a track record in securing research funding. They will be expected to contribute to the teaching, research and leadership in the departments/programme in which they are jointly appointed.

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified and plans will be made for a campus visit and interview. It is envisaged that these interviews will take place in October or November 2013. A competitive remuneration package, including a period of subsidised housing benefits, will be offered to successful candidates.
