Leiden University invites applications for an Assistant Professorship in modern Korean culture in its East Asian contexts. Appointment from August 2013 through July 2016, with the possibility of extensions and of tenure thereafter. Requirements include a PhD degree. Applications by candidates near completion of the degree will be considered. Review of applications from 1 May 2013.
The Lecturer will combine Humanities and Social Science perspectives on culture, to engage popular and ‘high’-cultural production in film, literature, theater, art, music, and (new) media, with reference to cultural identities (ethnicity, gender, language, social organization) and social, political, economic, and religious contexts, in their historical perspective.
Leiden University aims to employ more women in areas where they are underrepresented. Women are therefore especially invited to apply. Candidates from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for a substantial tax break.
