The Department/College
This opening is in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, one of two Departments of the College of Sustainability Sciences and Humanities (CSSH). Faculty working in the Department include a wide range of scholars from around the world specializing in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Political Science, Political Economy, Sociology, Philosophy, and Literature.
The College, which also houses the Department of Natural Science and Public Health, is firmly grounded in the UAE’s determination to build a sustainable future while conserving its cultural heritage, protecting its natural environments and promoting the welfare of its citizens. The College offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in key areas that promote the study of issues related to environmental, social, cultural and economic sustainability. The majors in the College take a broad, multidisciplinary approach to identifying and addressing the complex, intertwined areas of modern society and its sustainable relationship to the natural environment. CSSH students are uniquely equipped, through research and internship experience, to understand and to work at the intersections of the cultural, social, humanitarian, political and scientific disciplinary fields.
The Opportunity
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications from scholars of East Asia for a full time faculty position. The area of specialization is open, but the Department is especially interested in candidates whose research focuses on social, cultural, historical, and/or political issues in the context of China and can contribute to the Department’s Major in International Studies, with concentrations in Culture and Society or International Affairs.
The Requirements
Candidates should have a PhD from a recognized university and the capacity to teach and research in an interdisciplinary environment. Evidence of teaching excellence and experience is important, including potential to supervise thesis projects. The teaching load may also include one or more courses in the University’s General Education Program.
