Job Description:
The Sociology Program, SAPE Department, at the American University in Cairo invites applications for an open rank position to begin fall 2013 for a one-year replacement. The Department is seeking candidates with a strong background in sociological theory and research methodology and methods and a specialization in one or more of the following areas: development and civil society, political sociology, social movements and public sphere participation (including youth as well as other groups), gender, family, stratification, population and health and/or medical sociology. Knowledge of the Arab world/Middle East is considered a plus.
Requirements:
PhD in Sociology is required at time of appointment. Teaching experience is preferred.
Successful candidates should have an ongoing program of research and publication and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. Responsibilities include undergraduate as well as graduate teaching in a joint Sociology-Anthropology MA program, an active program of research and publications, and service to the Department and the University.
