The Faculty of Humanities at Leiden University invites applications for a tenurable position in premodern Chinese history (pre-Han through Qing), with the aim of filling the position at full-professorial level immediately or in maximally six years from appointment. Appointment date 1 August 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter.
We seek a scholar of wide intellectual scope. Research specialization in terms of period and thematics is open. S/he will teach survey courses in premodern Chinese history and seminar courses on topics of choice in the study of premodern China, and oversee and contribute to the teaching of Premodern Chinese.
If appointment is made at the level of assistant or associate professor, this will be with a tenure track toward the full professorship.
