University of Baltimore – The School of Communications Design (SCD) invites applications for a tenure-track (rank of assistant or associate) faculty position in Graphic and/or Interactive Design beginning in August 2013 (contingent on final budgetary approval). The position requires professional or artistic accomplishments and evidence of teaching ability appropriate for classroom and online instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
Three innovative programs in SCD offer design courses. The School’s interdisciplinary faculty continually develop new ways of approaching and teaching digital design. SCD is a dynamic environment, continually surveying and responding to the marketplace; its mission is to help students become current and accomplished professional designers. Our B.A. in Digital Communications (newly developed), M.A. in Publications Design, and M.F.A. Integrated Design, rely heavily on digital design, and other programs in the College of Arts and Sciences link to the design curriculum as well.
For this position we seek an individual who can teach a broad variety of graphic design courses across media platforms. We are particularly interested someone with experience in motion graphics and/or animation. Candidates must also demonstrate an awareness of recent technical developments in the design field and the ability to explore the opportunities presented by social media both theoretically and in practice. The standard teaching load is six to seven courses per year.
Located in the culturally rich mid-Atlantic area, within easy distance of Washington DC, Philadelphia, and NYC, the University of Baltimore is an urban university centrally located within the city at the intersection of the thriving Station North Arts and Mt. Vernon Cultural Districts. We are steps from such diverse organizations as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Walters Art Gallery, and a burgeoning theatre district.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Candidates must hold a terminal degree (M.F.A. or Ph.D.) in digital graphic design or a related field. Candidates must have higher education teaching experience, a strong portfolio, and the potential to work collaboratively as active members of a faculty that maintains a creative/research agenda, contributes to program and curriculum development, and participates in university service and other areas of faculty responsibility.
Preferred: Candidates with an exceptional record of creative, professional and/or scholarly activities appropriate to the rank of an advanced assistant or associate professor; demonstrated excellence in teaching; industry experience in an area related to their design expertise; and 3-5 years of higher education involvement.
