Religion / religious studies - field and rank open
Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | British Columbia, Canada |
Position: | Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor |
Quest University Canada invites applications for a full-time, continuing faculty position in the arts and humanities with a focus on religion; rank and field are open.
The successful candidate will teach our foundation course in World Religion, at least one other arts and humanities foundation course (currently Fate and Virtue, Reason and Freedom, or Identity and Perspective), and concentration courses in her or his area of specialization. All Quest faculty are expected to be able to teach the Cornerstone and Question courses.
In your letter of application, please discuss which courses you can create for our concentration program that would expand our offerings to Quest students interested in religion or the humanities. Please also specify how you are qualified to teach World Religion. (For more detail on these and other courses see www.questu.ca/academics/foundation_program/course_descriptions.php.) Evidence of effective teaching must be included in the application.
Please consult our web site (http://www.questu.ca/employment/faculty_openings/) for other job listings; please do not apply for this position if you are applying for any other position currently being offered at Quest. Hiring for this position is subject to budgetary approval.
All Quest classes are seminar-style and are limited to enrollments of 20 or fewer students. Our faculty is deeply committed to student learning. Quest faculty are often called upon to stretch beyond the boundaries of their disciplines by mentoring student research in a variety of fields, and by creating interdisciplinary and team-taught courses.
Further details about Quest and the application procedure can be found under Information for Faculty Applicants. Applications should be sent to humfaculty@questu.ca; please put the words "Arts and Humanities - Religion" in the subject heading.
A PhD (or equivalent) and some undergraduate-level teaching experience is required. Although research, especially that involving undergraduates, is encouraged, those seeking a research-focused faculty position should not apply. Applications should be received by October 26, 2012; interviews for finalists will be scheduled in November and December. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for interviews will be contacted. The start date for the position is August 1, 2013.
