The University of New Mexico Honors College invites applications for an Assistant Professor, probationary appointment leading to a tenure decision in the Honors College. This position will include administration and teaching of courses related to the Honors College Scholars and Champions Initiative. This Initiative will integrate academics and athletics for high-achieving student-athletes. The position expects the faculty member to teach a minimum of two courses per semester, mentor students, and work with high achieving student athletes. The Honors College is a university-wide, undergraduate, interdisciplinary college offering special academic opportunities to high achieving, highly motivated students from all other UNM colleges and schools through an active learning (seminar/tutorial) approach. We seek faculty with a student-centered philosophy, innovative ideas, and strong mentorship skills who are engaged in creative, experimental teaching. In addition, applicants must demonstrate a record of scholarship and strong interpersonal skills. Tenure and promotion decisions are based on teaching, research, and service to be determined at the time of hire.
Minimum Qualifications: 1) Applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand by application date; 2) Ph.D. must be in American Studies, Social Sciences, Communication; 3) Record of teaching experience; 4) Record of scholarly work; 5) Record of working with academic initiatives with high achieving student athletes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with an honors program;
- Demonstrated scholarly interests;
- teaching background especially related to courses that enhance the academic experience of high-achieving student-athletes;
- demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate seminar-style courses;
- demonstrated experience with innovative curriculum, program development;
- excellent interpersonal skills;
- and a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collegial environment.
Salary and Appointment Status: The salary range is between $65,000-70,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is available beginning August 12, 2013.
