Faculty Position - Rail Transportation (Transportation Policy and/or Economics; or Multimodal Systems Analysis)
Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | Michigan, United States |
Position: | Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor |
Michigan Technological University is conducting a university-wide, Strategic Faculty Hiring Initiative (SFHI) in Transportation. We invite applications for a tenure-track, faculty position in Transportation Policy and/or Economics; or Multimodal Systems Analysis (both with an emphasis in Rail Transportation). The SFHI positions are open in rank. In the first year of the SFHI in Transportation we hired three tenure-track faculty. We intend to recruit two additional SFHI transportation faculty in 2012-13.
The development, management and maintenance of a vibrant transportation system that allows for the safe, effective and environmentally benign movement of people and goods are crucial to a successful economy. To be sustainable, future transportation systems will need to be multi-modal, and require cutting-edge research and skilled professionals to guide development and implementation. The SFHI in Transportation is designed to address these needs and the goals of the USDOT strategic plan for 2010-2015 (USDOT, 2010).
Applicants are expected to integrate their research with existing strengths in transportation at Michigan Tech, especially the Rail Transportation Program. The successful candidate will inspire and lead interdisciplinary collaboration amongst faculty with common interests in transportation, establish a nationally recognized research program, attract external funding, and extend their profile as a world-class scholar. Required qualifications include a PhD, prior success in obtaining external funding, demonstrated leadership skills, and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and graduate education. Experience in rail transportation is preferred. Applicants should specify their potential home department(s). The application review process will begin on September 30, 2012 and will continue until the position is filled. Full consideration will be given to applications received by November 30, 2012. Details on the hiring initiative (including required application materials and the submission process) are available at www.mtu.edu/sfhi.
