Princeton University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in the history of post-1500 Islamic North Africa and the Mediterranean. The position will be based in the Department of Near Eastern Studies, but teaching duties will be shared with the Department of History, and both departments will be represented on the search committee. Use of Arabic as a language of research is a prerequisite. The field of specialization is open; candidates with interests in political, military, maritime, social, economic, cultural, religious, and gender history are welcome to apply. The expected start date of the appointment is September 1, 2013. Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. by the start date of their appointment.
