The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2012.
Mission Statement
The CSUF Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies aims to enhance students' knowledge, skills, and motivation to appreciate the history and experience of diverse Chicano and Latino origin communities in the U.S. through a curriculum that emphasizes the social sciences, humanities, and arts. Position
The new faculty member will teach a wide range of undergraduate courses in a growing, dynamic, and interdisciplinary department. The faculty member will typically teach four courses each semester. The faculty member will also assist in expanding the current curriculum and develop new literature focused courses in his or her area of expertise as well as contribute to the Chicana/o Studies graduate concentrations currently under development in partnerships with other departments. The selected faculty member will also work with our vibrant and active student base of majors and minors and collaborate with the Chicana/o Resource Center on various student and community engagement projects. Positive decisions on tenure and promotion require excellent teaching, peer-reviewed publications, and service to the university, department and the profession.
Qualifications
Required
The successful candidate must demonstrate evidence of:
- A Ph.D. in American Studies, English, Ethnic Studies, Literature, Spanish, Women’s Studies or a related field by August 2012, with training and experience in Chicana/o Literature and Cultural Studies (desired).
- Effective teaching that emphasizes critical thinking and a student-centered approach to promote student learning.
- Effective and high-quality student mentorship and guidance.
- Strong research agenda.
- Familiarity with recognized best practices in teaching and have an interest in using and developing innovative instructional technologies to promote student learning.
- Ability to work collegially with a diverse range of students, staff and faculty.
Preferred
Preference is given to a candidate that can demonstrate evidence of:
- Secondary areas of research in Gender (Feminist Studies) and/or sexuality (Queer Studies); Comparative Latina/o Studies, Comparative Ethnic Studies or Latin American Subaltern Studies; Film/Cinema Studies and/or Popular Culture
- Capacity for generating external funding to support their research program
- Experience teaching at the college level

Rank and Salary
This is a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with rank, qualifications and experience.
