The Center for Medicine, Health, and Society (MHS) in the College of Arts & Science at Vanderbilt University invites applications for two academic positions, one tenure-track assistant professor and one tenured position, open rank, in the social and cultural aspects of medicine and health. Fields of specialization open. Primary appointments will be in MHS with secondary appointments possible in a number of Vanderbilt's academic departments. MHS is an innovative research and teaching center that applies social science and humanities methods to biomedical questions. Interdisciplinary scholars with interests in race and health, health economics, global health politics, social determinates of health disparities, gender/sexuality, media, urbanism, art, statistics, or social justice are particularly invited to apply. Candidates should have strong records of external funding and/or detailed plans for future funded research. Primary responsibilities include teaching and mentorship in undergraduate and graduate programs, participating in multidisciplinary research teams, and helping to build connections between MHS, the Vanderbilt Medical Center, and the Nashville community at-large. Review of applications will begin on October 1, 2011, and continue until both positions are filled. The appointments will begin Fall 2012. Ph.D. preferred by the time of appointment.
