Alfred University’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of history (with expertise outside of North American) and global studies to begin August 2011. Ph.D. in history expected, ABD considered (for instructor rank); specialty is open; preference for candidates whose teaching and research connect modern European history to non-Western cultural histories. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a core course in our Global Studies program and European history courses, in addition to courses based on the candidate’s area of specialty; normal teaching load is three courses per semester. The position provides the opportunity to develop courses that complement Alfred’s history program, already strong in American politics, diplomacy, and culture, and enrich our global studies program. We seek someone with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, whose research interests can be expanded to include undergraduates. The college values faculty who are interested in innovative pedagogy, interdisciplinary teaching, and integrating global awareness into their teaching; international experience is a plus. In addition to teaching, faculty responsibilities include student advising; an active program of research and scholarship; and participation in shared faculty governance.
