Sub-Saharan Africa. The History Department of Georgia State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in sub-Saharan African History to begin in August 2011. Specialization is open, but we especially seek applicants whose research and teaching situate African history in the wider world, particularly the history of the Atlantic world and/or the African Diaspora. The successful candidate will develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses on sub-Saharan African history and Africa’s connections and contributions to world history; s/he will also teach the world history survey either before or since 1500. The department offers an attractive teaching load and strong support for professional development. Located in downtown Atlanta, GSU has one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation.
