Public History: Roanoke College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Public History, beginning in the fall of 2011. The position is renewable. Areas of specialization are open, but the department finds subfields in African American, Native American, or Appalachian studies desirable. Teaching responsibilities will include courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise and courses designed to fit into the college’s new Intellectual Inquiry curriculum. Candidates should have or complete the requirements for the Ph.D. in History by August 2011. Candidates should also have a graduate level degree or commensurate experience in public history. The college requires a strong commitment to undergraduate education; teaching experience is preferable.
