Women in Intercultural Contexts. The fellowship program of the Center for Women’s InterCultural Leadership at Saint Mary’s College is seeking a scholar of Comparative Cultures or Interdisciplinary Studies, with a specialization in literary texts and traditions and their relation to women. The fellow will hold a joint appointment in Humanistic Studies, an interdisciplinary program focused on the contributions of “great books,” women, and Christianity to the Western tradition, and the successful candidate should show some knowledge of, or sensitivity to, these subjects. We prefer candidates from the fields of literature, art history, or history. We are particularly interested in candidates able to teach international/intercultural cultural studies and/or post-colonial studies with a focus on Asian or Southeast Asian studies, Middle Eastern studies, African studies, or Latin American studies in an effort to broaden the intercultural scope of Humanistic Studies. Candidates should have a PhD and a record of excellence in teaching discussion-based courses. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in international or intercultural studies. The fellow will teach an introductory course with a biographical emphasis as well as an upper-level course in the candidate’s specialty, in addition to pursuing the candidate’s own research agenda. Teaching load is 2-1. The appointment is for the academic year 2007-2008 with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Applicants should submit a vita, three letters of recommendation, and available evidence of teaching quality including sample syllabi.
