The Department of East Asian Studies at New York University invites applications for a full-time non tenure-track appointment as a Japanese Language Lecturer beginning September 1, 2009, pending budgetary and administrative approval. The program is seeking a teacher who has excellent command of both English and Japanese, and who, at a minimum, holds an MA degree. A candidate with a doctoral degree or committed to earning it will be preferred. The Department is particularly interested in individuals who are critically engaged with research and teaching of language in an interdisciplinary program. Applicants should submit 1) letter, 2) CV, 3) teaching philosophy as it applies to courses from the introductory to advanced level, 4) the relationship of language teaching and an area studies program, and 5) sample lesson plan with appropriate supporting material for a 75 minute class meeting. Course load: three classes per semester.
