Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of History
Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC), the 35th member of the University System of Georgia, is a premier 21st century four-year liberal arts institution. Located in the greater Atlanta metropolitan area, GGC provides a technology-enriched environment for instruction and learning. GGC seeks applications for assistant, associate and full professor faculty positions to begin August 1, 2009. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or appropriate terminal degree by the start date. GGC is an institution that values and encourages innovative teaching. In addition to teaching, applicants are expected to actively participate in scholarly activities and to contribute in the area of service to the college and community. Advising and mentoring are expected of all faculty. In accordance with Board of Regents Policy governing GGC faculty, successful applicants will be eligible to receive 5 or 3 year renewable appointments. In anticipation of increases in enrollment for the 2009-2010 academic year, GGC invites applicants for faculty positions in History (Asian History, Latin America any post 1493 period, African/Middle East History, Modern European History any post 1500 period, U.S. Public History prefer Georgia History), starting August 1, 2009. The successful candidates will be expected to teach the world history and/or US history survey courses as well as courses within their specialties. Applicants should demonstrate significant innovations in teaching, superior service to the institution, and established research credentials. Commitment to building a new college is also essential. GGC emphasizes a student-centered learning environment. Faculty will be expected to teach lower-division courses in addition to upper-division courses.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing. Job takes place in normal environmental conditions.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Criminal History Check required.
HOURS: Position may require non-standard work hours (nights and weekends).
SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience with excellent benefits.
