Columbia University Department of Religion, in cooperation with the Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies, seeks a scholar to fill a newly created position in post-Talmudic Judaism. The position may be filled at any rank from assistant professor to full professor and the selectee will be nominated to hold the Carl and Bernice Witten Professorship of Jewish and Israel Studies at the appropriate rank. In addition to an active program of scholarly research and excellence in teaching and advising, successful candidates will demonstrate active engagement with forms of analysis central to Religious Studies, as well as excellent knowledge of Hebrew. Candidates may specialize in any period from late antiquity to modern times, and in any relevant discipline. The successful candidate will teach in the Department of Religion and will be actively involved in the programming of the Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies.
