Bard High School Early College, a partnership between Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, invites applications for a full-time, permanent faculty position in the Social Studies department, beginning September 2009.
BHSEC, a national model in the field of public school reform, enables talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an Associate of Arts degree from Bard College as well as a high school diploma. The academic program emphasizes small class size and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body.
The position is open to candidates in all fields of U.S. and Latin American history. The successful applicant should be committed to innovative teaching to prepare students for college level studies. Teaching responsibilities will include the 9th grade Americas survey course and college electives in history.
In addition, candidates will be expected to participate fully in the life of the school, including advising students, serving on committees and supervising clubs.
A Ph.D. in hand is preferred, but doctoral students nearing completion of their degrees are invited to apply as well. Teaching experience is essential. Applicants should send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy or teaching portfolio, and letters of reference to:
