Background
The History Program in the School of Historical and European Studies at La Trobe University seeks to appoint a new lecturer in History, who will be expected to contribute at an outstanding level to the research and teaching of the Program, the School and the Faculty. History at La Trobe offers undergraduate units at the Bundoora (Melbourne) and regional campuses and has a strong postgraduate research program. It also has a distinguished record of teaching and research in the areas of American, Australian, Modern European and Gender History and contributes to Programs in American Studies, Latin American Studies, Australian Studies, Gender, Sexuality and Diversity Studies and Development Studies. In recent times the Program has developed a particular strength in Colonial and Postcolonial History.
Primary Objectives
Applications are invited for a lectureship in one of the following areas: Latin American History, Asian History, and African History. The Program is especially interested in candidates who will integrate their expertise with the broadly defined fields of colonial and imperial history, trans-national history, world-history, environmental history and/or developmental studies. In general, applicants areas of expertise will also be expected to complement the research and teaching strengths of the History Program, the School and the Faculty.
The successful applicant will be expected to teach in the Programs existing undergraduate units, many of which are team-taught, but also to offer new units devised by the appointee in his or her research area. The successful candidate will conduct research, apply for research grants, and contribute to the Programs distinguished publication record and to supervise research students in their area of specialisation. The position will be available from mid-2009.
