The History Department at UMass Boston seeks to make an appointment at the assistant professor level in the field of early modern European history (excluding Britain). The successful candidate will teach one of the department�s introductory surveys in Western Civilization or World history, while developing more specialized undergraduate courses and graduate courses with the Renaissance, the Reformation and other early modern topics. An active research agenda, preferably with an orientation toward social and cultural history, is also expected. We particularly welcome applicants whose work explores connections between Europe and other parts of the world, such as the Ottoman Empire, Africa and Asia.
Candidates must have the PhD in hand by May 2009. Dossiers will be considered continuously until an appointment is made, however, candidates applying prior to December 1 will be eligible for interviews at the AHA.
