The Shippensburg University History/Philosophy Department invites applications from specialists in the history of Middle East or another field relating to the Islamic World for a tenure-track position beginning in August 2009. All department members teach twelve credit hours per semester, including an upper-level course in their specialization and two or three sections of a required world history sequence for first-year students.
An earned doctorate from an accredited institution is required for tenure. Candidates who are in the process of completing their dissertations may be considered. Candidates must provide evidence of their ability and/or willingness to teach introductory world history courses and a demonstrated commitment to understanding and working with diverse populations. Candidates invited for an interview will be required to give a research presentation, participate in a general interview, and demonstrate teaching effectiveness by conducting a sample class in world history. All candidates must furnish proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. upon appointment.
