European College of Liberal Arts, Berlin
ECLA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2008-2010, Call for Applications
Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | Germany |
Position: | Post-Doctoral Fellow |
The European College of Liberal Arts in Berlin, Germany offers 2-3 Postdoctoral Fellowships.
Description:
The ECLA Postdoctoral Fellowships are teaching fellowships that allow outstanding academics in the early stages of their careers to develop as teachers in an academic environment where teaching matters. During their two years at ECLA, 2-3 Fellows will teach both within their area of expertise and beyond. ECLA's core courses provide an opportunity to engage with topics and texts that have a claim on us regardless of our specialty, and an opportunity to co-teach with academics from other backgrounds or disciplines.
Postdoctoral Fellows are encouraged to continue their research while at ECLA and for that reason one term (out of 3) each year is kept free of teaching. Fellows are expected, however, to participate in faculty seminars, teaching development and in a busy college life even during terms where they do not teach. For this reason the Fellowship is residential; accommodation on campus and meals in the cafeteria are provided as a part of the stipend.
Eligibility:
Applicants must have received or expect to receive a PhD between January 2006 and December 2009. Excellent English is necessary, and ideally applicants will have done their graduate work in English. Teaching experience is an advantage. All applicants from a humanities background will be considered as long as they have a documented interest in bringing their expertise to bear on issues of general relevance. In our current search special attention will be given to applicants with a PhD in theology, history or philosophy, esp. philosophy of law.
Terms of the Fellowship:
The Fellowship is awarded for a two year period to begin August 1, 2008. The stipend includes 28.000 Euros per year, accommodation and meals. The Fellow is expected to teach in four out of the six terms available, and attend classes in one. However, the Fellow is expected to be in residence during every term.
Application Procedure:
Applicants are asked to submit a completed application form, a cover letter, a CV and 2 letters of recommendation by January 5, 2008. Applications received after the deadline, and incomplete applications, will not be considered. Please send application materials to:
