Duties: You will serve as an author-historian, responsible for planning, researching, and writing short to mid-length historical studies. You will determine coverage and organization of the paper or monograph based upon an understanding of the major events of the topic, the key elements, the projected audience, and the basic objectives of the study. Review, analyze, and evaluate available secondary sources. You will arrange for and conduct interviews with participants or firsthand observers and obtain current after-action reports or other materials. Analyze complex events in order to identify the factors involved. You will coordinate with editors and aid in the selection of photographs and the preparation of appropriate maps, graphs and other illustrative materials. Provide reference service for answering questions or providing sources of information in response to inquiries. Attend professional historical meetings, conferences, and other group activities.
About the Position: You will have the opportunity to work independently, seeking guidance regarding unusual problems and questions of policy. Serve as an author-historian, responsible for planning, researching, and writing short to mid-length historical studies on historical topics relevance to current operations of the US Army. You will use your seasoned judgment and sound historical principles to analyze and evaluate materials of questionable accuracy or of an inconsistent nature.

· Basic Requirements: Degree: history or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. ***SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Qualified candidates for this job must show in their resume that they have experience in the following areas. 1) Knowledge of planning, researching and writing historical studies. 2) Ability to analyze complex historical events and identify factors involved.
· GS-12 and above: Bachelor's degree directly related to this occupation and 1 year of experience directly related to this occupation equivalent to the next lower grade level.
