Q: What is the H-Net Job Guide?
A: The Job Guide posts academic position announcements in History and the Humanities, the Social Sciences, and Rhetoric and Composition, and serves a broad audience of administrators, faculty members, archivists, librarians, and other professionals in the humanities and social sciences. The Job Guide is fully sortable and searchable, and is available via email and the web at no cost to the jobseeker. For further information see the Job Guide Page.

Q: How do I submit a job?
A: Fill out the online submission form
Q: How many people view the Job Guide in a week?
A: Our Job Guide has about 90,000 hits a week.
Q: How do I sign up to receive daily job guide postings?
A: At this time there is no job guide discussion or announcement list. You can sign up for H-Announce and receive the weekly digest of new postings on Mondays. Visit the Subscription Center to do so.
Q: How long will my job appear on the web?
A: The job will stay online until the closing date that you specify in the ad. If there is no closing date specified the job will run for 12 weeks from the date submitted.
Q: What if the category I would like to place my job ad under is not listed?
A: Contact jobguide@mail.h-net.msu.edu and ask the clerks to add the category.
Q: How do I get my job ad posted on a specific network (i.e. h-albion)?
A: Each network receives a weekly digest of the new ads posted to the Job Guide. This digest is then posted to the network. If you would like your ad to appear on a network outside of this digest you will need to contact the editors of that network. Remember that all job ads posted to our networks must first be posted in the Job Guide.
Q: I received an e-mail saying there were changes made to my ad; I didn’t ask for any changes. What does this mean?
A: Most likely this means that your job was either approved for posting or that your payment was received.
Q: Where can I write to have changes made to my ad?
A: To have changes made to your ad write to jobguide@mail.h-net.msu.edu. Please include your job ID# (5 digits, should start with a 3) in your request. You should hear back regarding your changes within two business days.
Q: How do I remove my job from the Job Guide when the position is filled?
A: To remove your ad from the Job Guide write to jobguide@mail.h-net.msu.edu. Please include your job ID# (5 digits, should start with a 3) in your request. Your job should be taken down within two business days.
Q: Why isn’t my job ad showing up on the Job Guide?
A: There could be a number of reasons this is happening. Please write to jobguide@mail.h-net.msu.edu for help in getting your job ad back online.
Q: How much does it cost to post an ad?
A: It costs $85 per ad.
Q: Is the $85 a one time fee?
A: Each ad costs $85 and will not incur further charges.
Q: What if my institution can not afford to pay the $85 fee to post a job ad?
A: If your institution is unable to pay the $85 fee please write to jobguide@mail.h-net.msu.edu to request a fee waiver or check fee waiver on the application form.
Q: I was never asked for my payment information when filling out the application form. Will my ad still be posted?
A: No, your application timed out during the process and the Job Guide did not receive a full application. Contact jobguide@mail.h-net.msu.edu and let them know about the situation. A clerk will then send you a url that will allow you to enter your payment information into our secure system.
Q: How do I change my method of payment?
A: Contact jobguide@mail.h-net.msu.edu for a form that will allow you to update your payment information. H-Net is unable to accept credit card information over the phone or e-mail so you will need to fill out the required form to change your payment method.
Q: Can I pay with a purchase order?
A: No, we do not accept purchase orders. We currently accept credit cards and checks. Contact jobguide@mail.h-net.msu.edu for more information.
Q: Is there any charge for changes or updates I need made to my ad?
A: No, there is no additional charge. If the changes are extensive you will be sent a url that will allow you to make the changes to the ad yourself.
Q: I can’t find my invoice; is there a charge to get another copy?
A: There is no charge for sending a copy of your invoice through e-mail or by fax. If you require a hard copy there is an additional $25 charge.
Q: Under what circumstances can I get a refund?
