We are a group of young scholars in Brasil studying, since 2009, the Middle East and the Muslim World. We are an academic study group and we have an Electronic Bulletin, called Malala (http://sites.usp.br/malala/). This April we have recently launched Malala 2 and in September we will launch Malala 3, a special issue dedicated to the Israel – Palestine Conflict. We have texts and articles mainly in Portuguese but also in English.
The Israeli – Palestine conflict is one the main issues present in the international political agenda of our times and on the daily life of millions of people all around the world. This theme is essentially political but also religious, geopolitical, cultural and humanitarian; and what we face is a growing polarity which only makes the pessimist felling towards the destiny of the conflict grow. Beyond the pessimism there are NGOs, activists and a few academics that are voices if not optimistic that at least give some ground to think about alternatives for the growing militarism of the conflict.
Looking for the conflict from the perspective of Israel the fear of new terrorists attacks is always present just as the old historical themes such as the antizionism among Arabs and Muslims. Looking for the conflict from the perspective of the Palestinians’ the fear of the expansion of the Israel´s settlements and the growing of the Islamophobia among Israelis is always present.
When both sides seem exhausted what are the options that remain?
We would like to invite you to share your thoughts about the perspectives for the Israel –Palestine Conflict. Your op-ed text will be part of our Eletronic Boletim Malala, n. 3 – Special Issue on the Israel – Palestine conflict. We have a ISSN register and the text will be available online in a website hosted by the State University Of São Paulo, (USP) a leading public University in Brazil.
Your text should contain no more than 2500 words, which we kindly ask you to send it attached via email (as .doc file) to the following address: email@example.com
The deadline is: 05/August/2014
Your intellectual contribution will be very important for us.
Best regards from Brazil
