Starting with the Reformation and continuing into the Enlightenment era and beyond, the concept of religious freedom exerted a profound influence on German literature and culture. The concept of sexual freedom could be seen as resting on similar cultural foundations. Papers exploring how religious and sexual freedom are intertwined, and how they might come into conflict with each other, in German literature of the sixteenth century through the present, are welcome.
