The History Department at Mississippi State University invites undergraduate scholars to submit papers for the 6th annual Symposium for History Undergraduate Research (SHUR), which will be held on our Starkville campus on May 2-3, 2014. The theme of the symposium is “Reconnecting the Dots: Fresh Perspectives on History.”
We welcome papers on any historical topic, particularly those which reflect the Mississippi State University History Department’s strengths in the history of science and technology; agricultural, rural, and environmental history; the history of international security and internal safety; the Civil War; gender history; and African American history and civil rights.
The paper should be based on the student’s original research in primary sources. Interested students should submit a proposal or abstract of not more than 500 words to Dr. Julia Osman at firstname.lastname@example.org by March 1, 2014. Students whose papers have been accepted will be notified by March 15, 2014.
The History Department will offset the costs of one night’s lodging for presenters and provide a BBQ banquet on the first night of the conference.
