The theme of the conference is ‘analytic bioethics’. Thus, rather than focusing on a particular topic, the conference will focus on a particular approach to bioethics: the analytic approach. This approach is widespread in the English speaking world (including in Scandinavia), but is much less common in Continental Europe. The analytic approach within philosophy is characterized by an emphasis on argumentative rigor and clarity, and frequently draws on techniques developed particularly within Anglo-American philosophy—especially philosophy of language, metaphysics and epistemology.
The speakers will present on various topics in bioethics. The common thread will be the approach. Speakers include Jeff McMahan, Ingmar Persson, Stephen Wilkinson, Axel Gosseries,Tom Douglas, Muireann Quigley, Simon Rippon, Ezio Di Nucci, James Wilson, and Katrien Devolder.
