Proposals are now being sought for a workshop on the history of migration during economic downturns, which will be convened by the German Historical Institute and the Migration Policy Institute on April 4-5, 2014. The workshop will examine the debates over migration, changes to migration policy and practice, and the experiences of migrants as the economy worsens. We welcome the contributions of historians, historically-minded social scientists, and policy analysts. The workshop will focus on the United States in the period from the Great Depression to the present, but we are also interested in contributions that provide a geographically or temporally comparative perspective on the subject. Please send an abstract and CV by January 15, 2014.
