These eight-week residential fellowships provide the opportunity to pursue individual work and research in a community of peers while being mentored by senior artists and scholars. Ten fellowships are awarded annually to doctoral students at an advanced stage of research and writing on pre-1980 American art and visual culture and to artists with a masterís degree. Candidates must be nominated by a professor at an academic institution. Fellows receive lodging, a $5,000 stipend (artists receive an additional $300 for materials), and a contribution to travel costs.
