I am organizing a panel for the January 2015 CLAH meeting in New York. The topic of the panel is Police, Policing and Social Control in Modern Latin America. I am seeking panelists who are interested in:
a)The formation of police forces in Latin America in the 19th and 20th centuries from a social, political, institutional or cultural perspective;
b)Political and intellectual debates about police forces and policing;
c)Law enforcement in everyday life;
d)Gender, race, and class in the construction of policemen identities;
e)Intercontinental influence of policing models.
My paper will focus on the institutional history of the Peruvian Police in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
