This symposium (and the boat-ride that is part of it) commemorates voyages by english and dutch boats exploring Monmouth County in December 1663. The english explorers are coming from Gravesend, Long Island and the dutch are coming from Manhattan trying to prevent the english from buying land from the Leni Lenape. The research is based on Franklin Ellis's History of Monmouth County, New Jersey. The issues of Religious Freedom and Freedom of Conscience are involved in this topic. If you are interested in this subject, contact us and we will try to give you an opportunity to participate in this symposium which will be held at the Old First Church in Middletown, NJ. The boat ride to and from New York City (passing by Gravesend)is leaving and returning to Highlands, New Jersey.
