At present there is no Australian equivalent of the American classics Strangers in Paradise, This Fine Place So Far From: Voices of Academics from the Working Class and Those Winter Sundays: Female Academics and Their Working-Class Parents, all of which explore the university/college experience from the perspective of the once excluded. To redress this we are editing a collection that aims to bring together academics and postgraduate students who identify as working-class or as coming from recently working-class backgrounds, with a view to examining and discussing their experience of the university. We are particularly interested in the experience of those who are ‘first in family’ or in the ‘first generation’ in their family to attend university.
