World War I (The Great War)affected the Northern Plains in many ways, not the least of which was the impact of the war on the treatment of inhabitants of German ancestry, the largest ethnic group in the region, and on agriculture, resulting in yet another boom-bust economic cycle. The Center for Western Studies is seeking papers and session proposals on these topics or on the 1910-20 period related to the Northern Plains.
