We are pleased to invite graduate students currently attending universities in Atlantic Canada to present their original, unpublished works of literary fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction at “Writing East: Graduate Student Creative Writing in Atlantic Canada.” Atlantic Canada includes Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Eastern Quebec.
The conference will be held at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s, NL.
We are particularly interested in creative work that features Atlantic Canada (as a setting, for example), but will consider other work as well. We are interested in new creative work with a fresh perspective. Presentations may be from coursework, a creative writing thesis, or something written outside of academia.
Poetry submissions may be a collection of poems or a long poem. Fiction may be flash fiction, a piece of short fiction, or an excerpt from a novel. Creative non-fiction includes personal essays, memoirs, and travel writing. Text/image presentations will be considered as well.
Presentations will be twenty minutes in length. Please submit a two-page sample of the work you intend to present, a 50-word bio, and your contact information as a MS Word attachment to Alexandra Gilbert at writingeast[at]gmail.com by January 1, 2014.
Please note that we are not accepting genre fiction (fantasy, time-travel, etc.).
