The Bern University of the Arts is pleased to announce the upcoming conference „Growing Up: Jazz in Europe 1960-1980“ , which will be held in Lucerne from November 6th to November 8th in 2014.
The conference is organized by the Bern University of the Arts, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and the University of Music Lausanne. It discusses the developments in European jazz during two of its most exciting decades.
The conference will take place as a major event of the research project “Growing Up” on Swiss jazz history, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF.
Papers are invited for the following Panels / Sessions:
− Jazz Stages in Europe: Festivals and Clubs
− Parallel Worlds: The Pluralism of Scenes and Styles
− Jazz Reception, Record Labels and the Media
− Aspects of Race and Gender in European Jazz
− Jazz Education, Professionalism, Unionization
− State Subsidized Jazz in Switzerland and in Other European Countries
− What Is “Swiss” About Swiss Jazz?
The presentations (max. 20 minutes) can be held in German, English, or French. Selected conference papers will be published in the European Journal of Musicology (www.european-musicology.eu), in an issue dedicated to the conference topic.
Submissions detailing original research (name, title, abstract of ca. 400 words) are invited to be sent to Thomas Gartmann (firstname.lastname@example.org), President of the Program Committee, not later than 30.11.2013.
Expenses for travel and accommodation will be reimbursed by the Conference Organizers.
