We are pleased to announce the 6th Annual History Graduate Student Conference, sponsored by the Department of History at Northern Illinois University, to be held in DeKalb, Illinois on Friday, 1 November 2013. Participants will present their work in a supportive and collegial setting, and meet future colleagues from other institutions and historical fields. This is our second announcement for papers, however our panels are filling quickly and we'd like to encourage those considering or preparing submissions to send them soon.
We are especially excited and proud to announce that this year's conference will be dedicated to NIU Professor Alfred F. Young. To mark this occasion, we have invited former American Historical Association President, Professor Linda Kerber of the University of Iowa, who will deliver the first annual Alfred F. Young Keynote Address. A number of Professor Young's colleagues and friends will be joining us for a roundtable discussion regarding Professor Young's work, legacy, and influence.
History graduate students (MA. and Ph.D.) are invited to submit proposals to present individual research papers or panel proposals of 2-3 presenters. Abstracts should not exceed one page. Please submit proposals to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Monday, August 19, 2013. Presentations should be between 15 and 20 minutes long.
Individual proposals should include submitter’s name, contact information, institutional affiliation(s), a one-page abstract of the paper (with a title), and a brief biographical statement indicating your academic status along with a return address and current e-mail address. Panel proposals for two or three presenters are also encouraged. Panel proposals should include the above, as well as a brief description of the panel itself. Please note that submissions will be accepted as time and space permit. Upon permission of individual presenters, outstanding papers will be also reviewed by a NIU faculty committee for publication in the department’s second annual conference e-journal.
Please address any inquiries to Ian Burns (email@example.com), Conference Chair and Organizer. Registration and program information will be sent in late August.
