I am seeking panelists for a session on "Violent versus Nonviolent Strategies by Movements and States', that I am co-organizing for the XVIII ISA World Congress of Sociology which will be held on July 13-19 in Yokohama, Japan.
The panel will consider how the interactions between movements and states, and with other actors, shape each side's choice of violent or nonviolent strategies. Papers on the roots of state violence and terrorism, civil resistance, and armed struggle will be considered.
