I am seeking contributors for an anthology on friendship in early America. The purpose of this anthology is to historicize myriad forms of friendship in early America from the seveteenth to the mid-nineteenth century. While there is significant scholarship on literary friendships in early America, much less has been done to provide an historical context to the meaning and development of friendship. For this volume, early America will include British, French, and Spanish America.
Possible article topics on the history of friendship could be (but not limited to):
Politics and political parties/alliances
Social differences (friendship across age, race, gender, etc).
Military and educational settings
Reform activism and voluntary organizations
