Towards critical demography.
Demographic processes and social issues in the contemporary world
There is a demographic dimension to almost every social, economic or political issue of import. Assuming the above, the focus of the planned volume of “Studia Sociologica” (international journal edited by the Pedagogical University of Cracow) will be on demonstrating how the understanding of demographic processes enables better insight into major issues in contemporary societies, at the same time providing tools to deal with these issues.
Considering the limited space, the articles will focus on Europe and North America. The proposed topics include the following:
• ageing of societies;
• epidemiological issues; health, illness and health protection;
• family and household as a context for demographic behaviours;
• fertility changes;
• social policy’s response to demographic challenges;
• demographic backdrop to social inequalities;
• natural environment as a context for demographic processes; climate changes, natural resources and population growth.
We invite demographers, sociologists and other social scientists to contribute to the ongoing public debate on the salient social problems which have a demographic dimension. We also encourage prospective authors to bring up for discussion possible solutions to the issues being raised.
Deadline for abstracts submission: 30th November 2013.
Deadline for texts submission: 20th February 2014.
