This conference offers a unique occasion to explore and celebrate Smith’s achievements and to discuss her importance in relation to other twentieth century writers. The programme includes contributions from leading contemporary critics as well as a conversation between Smith and Dame Gillian Beer.
Papers are invited on any aspect of Smith’s writing, including Genre and Forms of Representation; Intertextuality and Literary Inheritance; Modernism, Postmodernism, and the Contemporary; Time and Temporality; Literary Experiment; Gothic Inflections; National Identity; Contemporary Scottish Writing; Morality and Ethics; Space, Place, and Non-place; Gender and Sexuality; Women’s Writing; Queer Writing; Translation; Otherness and Alterity; and Cosmopolitanism.
