Author and journalist Marie Arana, will discuss the adventurous and volatile life of Simón Bolívar, who famously liberated much of Latin America from Spain.
Research for this recently published book was conducted while Arana was a distinguished visiting scholar at The
Kluge Center. She relied on a vast array of primary resources in numerous languages from the Library’s collections to reconstruct Bolívar’s dramatic military,
political and personal life. The biography combines scholarly accuracy with narrative flair and is one of few books about Bolívar written in English.
