Postgraduate Programme "Art Criticism & Curatorial Knowledge"
Ruhr University Bochum
Application Deadline: June 30, 2013
Start: October 1, 2013
The one-year postgraduate course, devised jointly by the Ruhr University Bochum, and the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, is aimed specifically at the requirements of exhibiting modern and contemporary art and writing about it. Since 2009 it has been run in cooperation with many further museums and exhibition spaces in Northrhine-Westphalia. In-depth tutorials, work discussions and workshops with internationally renowned artists, critics, curators and other experienced representatives from the fields of media and exhibitions, lead to a thorough, practice-oriented knowledge of the art of the 20th and 21st century.
During their postgraduate programme 12 students will acquire key areas of expertise for their professional activities, both practical and theoretical. During the first semester they study the basic history, theory and practice of exhibiting and the categories and criteria of art criticism. During the semester break every student undertakes a work placement in one of the museums involved. The focus of the second semester is the development of their own exhibition concepts for these institutions.
