Obelisque Publications has the pleasure to present a collection of sketchbook diaries by internationally acclaimed artist, George Bahgory. Over the decades, Bahgory recorded his observations and inspirations of Egyptian daily life in a thousand 40cmx40cm sketchbooks. From these pages, thick with texture and color, his grand masterpieces sprang. Widely regarded as one of Egypt’s best known artists, Bahgory’s strong and masterful manipulation of image creates original stories that appeal to admirers of arabesque and contemporary art collectors around the globe.
Bahgory Legacy brings together two sketchbook diaries; the first, The Cafés of Cairo, is an invitation into a typical Cairene ‘ahwa or café. The second diary, Portraits, is a study of individuals that features Bahgory’s innate talent to capture character, simply and mysteriously. In a fresh approach, Bahgory reviews his own works and life beginning with the pithy commentary: “I feel the best years of my life have been since I turned seventy.”
